Category: Gear

Exotac fire starting tools utilize a proprietary alloy of rare earth metals called ferrocerium. Some of these metals include Iron, Cerium and Magnesium. When a ferrocerium rod is rapidly scraped, the friction created ignites the shavings producing molten globulars of burning metal. It is these long-burning molten globulars of metal that make a ferrocerium fire starter so effective at catching other materials afire.

HOW TO REPLACE:

To replace an old rod, simply unscrew the rod and screw in the new rod. Ensure the rod is a snug fit into the rod holder.

Olivia ★★★★★

Swapped this rod into my old striker and it throws a fat shower of sparks onto my tinder bundle in two or three scrapes. The ferrocerium alloy seems denser than the original rod, so it doesn't wear down nearly as fast. Nice to have a fresh rod without buying a whole new tool.

John G. ★★★★★

The sparks fly thick and hot the moment you scrape it, and the ferrocerium alloy composition really does make a difference compared to the cheap rods I've used before. Fits perfectly in the holder and feels solid, like it'll last through plenty of trips.

Swapped out the worn rod on my old fire kit and this replacement fits perfectly, no fiddling needed. The ferrocerium alloy throws sparks with just a couple of firm scrapes, even when my hands were a bit clammy. Glad I grabbed a spare.
